The other day I was sorting through my makeup collection, trying to justify that I need everything so I don't have to throw anything away or get rid of it. Come on we all do it don't we? That one eyeshadow palette you keep incase you're feeling daring enough to wear bright green eyeshadow one day, we all have one. As I was sorting through, I found so many products that I love so much but had just completely forgotten about them. I'm definitely going to make more of an effort to rotate the makeup I use daily so products don't go neglected as much.

#1 - don't buy things you know you'll never use
This is the worst thing you can do, as your stash seems to collect full of products you'll never use. This is also pretty hard not to do, as you will always buy something and justify it with some stupid reason.

#2 - always know the expiry dates of makeup
Expiry dates is something I didn't know about when I first started using makeup, there's a few things that live longer than their expiry dates, and things that will age well before. The best advice is usually if it looks different/smells different, I'd be hesitant about using it, and bin it straight away. I will be doing a post about expiry dates in the future, so I will link it back here when it's done!

#3 - get your storage sorted
Buying storage for your makeup will encourage you to sort out your makeup more, as you'll never be happy with the way it looks if your like me. In all seriousness, storage is the best way to keep rotating your makeup, and clear acrylic storage means you can see everything you have to stop you forgetting about products.

#4 - don't be afraid to be ruthless
If there's products in your stash that you never use or you don't think they suit you, get rid of them or give them to a friend. There is no point keeping something for that one chance that you might like it one day, by that time it could've expired and gone horrible. So bin, give away or sell it; depending on the usage and the type of product, but blog sales are usually the best way to get rid of unwanted makeup.

#5 - make the effort to switch things up
If you're like me and you wear the same makeup pretty much everyday because it's easy and simple it can be quite hard to switch things up a bit. Since I've started rotating my collection around a bit, using a different palette or shade of lipstick, I've rediscovered some absolute beauties in my stash. You may discover something you've not used for months and completely forgotten about, so make that little bit of effort to dig something different out, it could surprise you!

How do you store your makeup so you don't forget products?

  1. I seriously need to sort out my makeup storage! And need to stop purchasing unnecessary products.. Although I am quite good. I would say I buy way more clothes than makeup xx

  5. I recently had a ruthless makeup clear out, but still hang on to way too many lipsticks! Definitely guilty of keeping makeup past its use by date...X

  6. Such good tips! I always try and have a good clear out of my make-up every now and then, and i am guilty of trying to keep things that i think i will wear 'one day' haha!

  7. Great tips! I am guilty of doing the opposite of them all. Lol. I did start a clear out early this year and I have given away quite a number of stuff but there are still some items that I am hanging on to that in reality I will never use. Sigh.

  8. Thanks for this! Gave me inspiration to rotate and mix up my stash! xx

  11. I've just bought a clear storage unit...I've never had proper make-up storage before and everything is kept in a million make-up bags! Hopefully this will help me know what I have and use different products more often. I buy so many things for reviewing etc...I just end up with so much crap! xx Sophie/
